The aim of the "Corona Science" project is to collect, on the shortest possible time and on a voluntary basis, anonymous data relating to the state of health of the Swiss population.
The intent of the project is, therefore, to establish an extensive and active community of individuals involved in the collection of data useful for understanding and monitoring of the pandemic on a national level. Furthermore, thanks to the data collected, the scientific community will also have the opportunity to better comprehend what are the psychological implications derived from the outbreak and the isolation.
The collected data is made available to the research communities in anonymized form, thanks to the support of the MIDATA platform https://midata.coop and to our partner OpenData https://opendata.ch, Swiss branch of the Open Knowledge group (https://okfn.org).
The data will also be made available to the public through the SDSC project https://datascience.ch, a collaboration between the Federal Polytechnic Schools of Lausanne and Zurich (EPFL, ETH).
The Corona Science application is exclusively intended for people residing in Switzerland and is aimed at both sick and healthy people.
How can I support the fight against the coronavirus?
- Follow the measures of the Confederation and take responsibility: stay at home.
- Enter your health status and further information about COVID-19 on a daily basis via the Corona Science app.
- With your consent, your collected data is anonymously made available to the Open Data Community.
No conclusions about your person can be drawn from the anonymous data.
With the anonymous data made available to the public, we make it possible to better understand the course of the pandemic. At present, people stay at home whenever possible and are asked to only contact doctors or emergency rooms when necessary. As a result, many people are not tested for COVID-19 and the actual number of people who fall ill is unknown. Our app will help to obtain better data in this situation. It will also provide a basis for monitoring the situation when the measures can be relaxed again.
Your data will be stored on your personal user account on the MIDATA platform. Note: the possibility to open an account is limited to people residing in Switzerland only. You have full control over your data. The MIDATA Cooperative operates a highly secure and privacy compliant platform and supports data-driven research through patient empowerment and “Citizen Science” approaches.
